[11:17:18] {ormus} wow
[11:17:27] {ormus} heh…that hacked up web page actually validates
[11:17:44] {ormus} suckers!
[11:29:07] {ormus} hey baal:
[11:29:10] {ormus} One of the issues surrounding the GIF format is that the LZW algorithm was protected in the USA by a patent held by the company Unisys. The Unisys LZW patent expired in the USA on June 20, 2003. LZW patents are expired in Canada, France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Japan.
[11:39:03] {nule} LZW isn’t expired everywhere yet.
[11:39:32] {nule} And I think the bigger issue is that PNGs are technically better, unless you want to do the gif98a animation.
[11:40:07] {ormus} yeah, seems like pngs are better in about every way
[11:40:12] {ormus} compress better, too, evidently
[11:40:29] {baal} yep
[11:40:31] {baal} png is good
[11:40:33] {baal} ™
[11:40:50] {ormus} uhoh…there goes the neighborhood…
[11:40:50] {baal} freaking unisys
[11:40:54] * baal hates unisys
[11:41:03] {ormus} *baal stabs unisys
[11:41:53] {baal} gee, thanks ormus
[11:42:01] * baal stabs unisys again for good measure
